At the heart of everything we do is Ken Christopher—his experience, philosophy, and lifelong devotion to racing pigeons have shaped not only our feed formulas, but our entire approach to bird care and performance.
Ken’s passion for birds began at just eight years old, raising bantam and show chickens for the local fair. His fascination deepened in fourth grade, when his school principal brought a crate of homing pigeons for a classroom demonstration. He offered a bird to any student who could get a parent’s permission. Ken raced home, eager to join in—but his father wasn’t impressed and said no. Not one to give up easily, Ken forged a note, built a makeshift cage behind a bush on the family property, and smuggled a racing cock home.
A few days later, Ken’s secret was out. His father caught him feeding the bird and, to Ken’s surprise, gave him a condition: if he was going to keep it, he’d have to build a proper loft and find the cock a mate. Ken didn’t waste any time—he caught a wild hen and got to work.
Ken couldn’t afford a racing clock in those early years, so instead he turned his attention to fancy pigeons, rollers, and game birds. He bred and judged pigeons for decades before finally getting into racing in 1985. But even then, something was missing: the feed.
Frustrated by the lack of quality options in Northern Utah, Ken leaned into his background in poultry and game birds, drew from Cornell research, and began mixing his own formulas—blends for racing, breeding, maintenance, and show birds. For nearly 15 years, he made the feed himself, and later partnered with Wheatland and Ward Feed & Seed to bring his formulas to more pigeon fanciers across the country. By mid-2025, his mixes had gained national recognition and were known for fueling high-performance birds.
Ken’s philosophy is built around one core belief: Super Health. It means going beyond the basics—prioritizing clean lofts and waterers, good airflow, and resilient genetics. He believes that exceptional animal performance comes down to how much care and attention you give. This mindset drives everything we do, and it’s captured in our motto:
In 2025, after years of producing Ken Christopher’s feed mixes for local pigeon fanciers, Ward Feed & Seed closed its doors. To keep Ken’s legacy alive and provide top-shelf feed for Ken and their local club, longtime friend and champion racer Ryan Hess teamed up with Matthew Smith, an agricultural science student and entrepreneur from Southeast Idaho. Together, they partnered with Agrifor, a trusted seed company in Corinne, Utah, known for its high-quality seed, local grower network, and top-tier facilities. This collaboration brings new life to Ken’s original formulas—revitalizing his trusted racing, breeding, and maintenance blends for fanciers across Utah and the western U.S.
